Book Fund honors Arthur Heimann and Joanne Bunge
A book fund has been established at the Drake Community Library in honor of two people important to the Bucket Courses, Art Heimann and Joanne Bunge. The fund is known as the Art Heimann/Joanne Bunge Book Fund.
Heimann had seven years of perfect attendance at the Bucket Courses, attending every class since the Bucket Courses from their beginning in 2009. He continued to attend most courses until his death in 2020 at age 98 |
In establishing the book fund to honor Heimann, the Planning Committee said his attendance was an example and inspiration to others. In an exceptional community of lifelong learners, Art personifies the joy of learning and the volunteerism that makes educational programs flourish
The fund is also named in honor of Joanne Bunge, founder and leader of the Bucket Courses. After retiring from a career at both the hospital and the College, Joanne spent her retirement improving the community's education program. She founded Grinnell's Senior Education Program (SEED), the Community Education Council (CEC), and the Bucket Courses.
